2016 Lunchtime Concert

Saturday’s performance (5th March) in church by Meriel Cunningham, Ellie McCormick and pianist Fernando Martin-Penasco  thrilled and delighted the audience with their enchanting and beautiful singing and playing.

The first half of the programme included famous solos and duets, featuring works by Puccini, Mozart, Quilter, Britten, Obradors, Schumann and Lehar.  The second half the audience was entertained by songs by Styne, Bernstein, Krieger and Sondheim.

Meriel first started singing in the church choir here at St. Nicholas’ when she was 7 years old.  She later became one of the first girl choristers at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and sang many solo Evensong anthems. Meriel also sang the solo in the St. Nicholas’ Singers Community Choir’s very first concert given in June 2012.

This was a fine opportunity to hear some high class music from some very talented musicians, and we hope to hear them again in the future.  The church and community are very grateful for their wonderful performances and for taking the time to come to St. Nicholas’.  Admission was free to all, and a retiring collection of £300 was raised in aid of the St. Nicholas’ Church Restoration Fund.  Many thanks to all contributors!
