This paper was prepared by Peter Batey for the Parochial Church Council at St. Nicholas’ in early 1984.  It presents the work of a special sub-committee formed in 1981 to consider the future of St. Nicholas’ Church. 

A total of eight options are described and discussed, some of them quite radical. These options are whittled down to three in the final section of the paper and, following extensive discussion by the PCC, a decision was taken to accept the first of these options:  “Retain the present church and halls, restoring them and maintaining them in good repair.”  This important decision marked the start of an extensive restoration programme that has continued until this day.  Read on…  The Future of St Nicholas’ 1984 – A discussion Paper
